Our Horses

Our Horses come from a variety of sources where they are donated, on loan or purchased by our Centre; our horses are often retired and come from a  range of backgrounds including pony club, horse club, dressage and riding schools.

RDA needs horses:

  • Ideally between 12.2hh and 15.3hh (a hand is equal to 10cm)
  • Ideally aged between 8 and 18 years
  • Wide and Narrow horses
  • Suitable well-mannered and experienced horses with good temperaments
  • Sound horses

RDA gives these horses and ponies a new lease in life and career opportunities.  They in return offer total unconditional love to our riders creating a WIN-WIN situation.

If you have a horse you think may be suitable to our needs please contact our Centre via email raymondterrace@rdansw.org.au or via phone: (02) 4987 1402.

When horses come into our Centre, they must go through an extensive training program for a maximum period of 3 months, before entering normal programs to ensure they are suited to our needs and riders.  At the beginning of each year our experienced horses are given  refresher training to ensure they are kept up to date for our riders.

To maintain these wonderful horses cost our Centre between 27,000 to 30,000 annually including the following cost:

  • Hay and Special Feed
  • Horse Shoeing and Hoof Trimming
  • Vaccinations and Worming
  • Horse Dentist and Veterinary Cost
